The Oklahoma Association of Chiefs of Police in conjunction with the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health will be offering a free forty (40) hour Crisis Intervention Team Training. For those of you unaware of what CIT is, or why your agency would benefit from this specialized training:
The mission of the Crisis Intervention Team is to use understanding and skills gained through specific training to identify and provide the most effective and compassionate response possible to police situations involving people in a mental health crisis."
This training could possibly be the intervention tool that could help save the life of an officer or the mental health consumer. Those departments who utilize the skills learned in the Crisis Intervention Training have had significantly better outcomes for both their officers and the mental health consumers during a crisis situation.
Just ask Stillwater, Moore, Midwest City, Bethany, Owasso, OKC, about the value of this free training!
The 40 hour CIT Class is scheduled for July 20-24, 2009, 0800-1600 daily at the OACP headquarters, 1141 N. Robinson Avenue, Oklahoma City. The class is the “Memphis Model” and is taught by multi discipline instructors from ODMHSAS, NAMI, OCPD and MWCPD.
